What is a charter school?
Charter schools are independently-operated public schools. Parents can choose to send their children to a public charter school outside of their “zoned” public school. There is no charge or tuition to attend a public charter school. While charter schools have flexibility in choosing curriculum and developing innovative teaching practices, charter schools must test students and report results, just like the government-operated public schools, as required by federal and state laws.

What sets West Preparatory Academy apart from other schools?
West offers a choice for parents and students within the public school system. West is often referred to as a private school without the tuition. We place a high emphasis on parent involvement. Our curriculum allows for small group learning to take place allowing the teacher to focus on the needs of the individual child.
West Preparatory Academy has:

How much does it cost to attend West Preparatory Academy?
West is a publicly-funded charter school. There is no tuition charged to attend a charter school.
Do students wear uniforms?
Yes. West students wear uniforms. The uniform is a burgundy West polo shirt and khaki trousers, or skirt. We find that simple, comfortable uniforms or a dress code mark learning as a serious endeavor and minimize student competition and distraction regarding dress. Uniforms will be available for purchase on the website before the first day of school.
Are West’s teachers certified?
Every West Teacher is certified to teach in the subject and grade-level to which they are assigned. All staff is highly qualified.
What can you tell me about the school's curriculum?
Project Based Learning (PBL) with technology integration is a central focus at West. Students will be actively engaged in various projects and educational pursuits, while at the same time learning the essential knowledge and skills as outlined State Standards/ Common Core.
Testing and Assessment
West Students will participate in State Testing on the same schedule as Cleveland, Ohio School District Schools.
Breakfast is available to all students at 8:30 a.m. School starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. and dismissal begins at 4:00 p.m.
West offers Physical Education and Art to all students. These courses enhance the curriculum and projects in the regular classroom.
How do I enroll my child at West?
To begin the enrollment process, visit the enrollment tab to complete the 2017-2018 application.
Does submitting an application guarantee my child a seat at West?
No. West will conduct a random lottery to determine who is able to enroll if classes are full.
Are parents required to volunteer?
No, but we believe that parent involvement in their child’s education is critical to the child’s success. Parents will have many opportunities to volunteer based on their skills and abilities. This could be anything from helping at a fundraising event, field trip, or assisting a teacher with administrative work.
Will there be a parent organization?
Yes. West currently has a PTA. Parents are encouraged to join PTA and attend a minimum of 3 meetings per year.
Is transportation available?
West currently offers busing to those students requiring transportation.
Is before and after-school care available?
Before and After-school programs are provided on site.
Does West offer breakfast or lunch?
Yes. We offer breakfast and lunch to all students.
Do you have special education programs (Gifted , ESE, Speech)?
Yes. West provides services to any child with special needs with the goal of having the student become successful in regular classroom settings. Each child is evaluated to determine the most effective educational program we can provide, consistent with federal law.
